The PD-100 Black Hornet Micro Helicopter – I Want One

In the mood for a little spying activity? Don’t want to get too close to the action? Then this may be the perfect spy gadget for you. The PD-100 Black Hornet is a micro (or should that be nano?) helicopter fitted with a spy camera.  It’s currently being developed by a company named Prox Dynamics. They are planning both military and civilian versions but sadly only for government use! Release for the first Black Hornet is planned for 2010.

The neat little PD-100 weighs less than 20 grams and is less than 100 mm long and you will get them in packs of 3 together with the radio gear etc etc. The ‘control panel’ includes a 6″ LCD display to give you that birds eye view.

Proxy Dynamics list the following ‘missions’ that the Black Hornet is designed to carry out:

• Look Behind Objects
• Birds Eye View of Areas of Interest
• Visual Information in Urban Operations
• Reconnaissance Inside Buildings
• Hover and Stare
• Object Identification
• Target and Damage Assessment
• Deployment of Special Payload

All sounds pretty cool to me. I wonder what sort of ’special payload’ this thing could deploy? A nano rc tank to do battle on a nano battlefield perhaps?
